Canada, home of the brave, bans import of most folding knives.

@noddy Has this been going on long? It’s reminiscent of the idiocy we faced on BB years ago by Mount Pleasant HMRC office when there was an all out offensive to seize anything that could be construed as a gravity or centrifuge opening knife.

I am not really in those knifey circles any more. US sites have been carping about possible changes in Canadian knife law for a long time and gravity knives have been part of that . But, its not like the UK here. You can buy a crap or semi decent knife in any Canadian Tire or sport shop, and dedicated high-end cutlery stores are features of at least one mall in each big city where you will see grannies buying knives with their 16 year old grand kids … more so in some provinces than others. These past couple of years, I believe very little that I see on the internet. I shall look into it. :) This particular one has the familiar feel of a right wing, US-inspired anti-Trudeau cage rattling pacé the truckers revolt of a couple of years back. Shit-disturbing they call it here. They are coming for your guns kind of crap. They really aren't.

I've recently come back from Canada and saw quite a few folk with large folders clipped in a front pocket. No one seemed bothered. More concerned with recycling rubbish, saving the planet one napkin at a time I saw on one dispenser. I then went outside where nearly every vehicle was a big V8 pickup.

I think this has become a problem recently. I was reading some comments on a facebook group about all the US companies who will no longer ship to Canada because of this.

I think by their nature or culture, the staff and owners of knife companies in the US (elsewhere too, of course) might tend to be a bit isolationist and mistrustful of foreigners. It's my own predjudice, I know, but a vivid one that seems to explain a lot. I have been here since 2007. Of many dozens imported, only one knife (a little trad Northwoods slippie) didn't make it in all that time.
