Just back from a 950 mile road trip from Preston...I had a rough itinerary and about a week free:

Aviemore, Inverness, Gairloch, shieldaig then home. No real plan, Just a rough route.

One man and his dog, a coolbox full of food and a decent audiobook.

I left late on Sunday,.and drove 250 miles to pitlochry, spent the night in a forestry car park, and cracked on north.

First taste of the Eastern Highlands, six miles round Uath lochan, then onto a sunny Aviemore for another walk round the Glenmore lodge area. The weather was fantastic. Not a cloud in the sky.

I had a night in Inverness with an old mate, then headed west to the coast around ullapool and gairloch

Mungasdale beach and waterfalls.. literally not a soul around.

On a tip from a mate I visited the Atlantic convoy memorial at loch ewe.

Fantastic back story to the place. Not a good posting in ww2!

We had a an hour or two on the stunning beach at firemore, and a mooch round gairloch. I had planned to stay there, but the pub was soulless, so I spoke to a local in a cafe, who said the inn at Badracho was far better

Had a night on the piss in the badracho inn, Badracho, and stayed over on the pub car park overlooking the loch. Good pub, friendly locals. Had my first draught Tennant's. Woke to heavy persistent rain.

Climbed part way up beinn eighe, but turned back due to pretty heavy snow above 300m
By now everything I owned was piss wet through, so I had a night in the Yha in Torridon, mainly to get my shit dry😉 I slept I the van, but used all the facilities.

Great location, and a decent hostel. Really friendly staff.

To finish the trip I had a day up beinn damh and an afternoon in shieldaig... definitely the nicest place I visited...

Great trip. 5 nights in the van, all free ( found via search for sites)

Plenty of scenery and solitude. I'll head back in September!

Nice one, I use Search for Sites a lot if I just want a stopover and early off. Found some good places around the New Forest where you can hide in behind the gorse bushes and nobody knows you’re there.

I've used it for four or five years. It's brilliant.

Might be going the new forest this summer😉

Pretty much all of that route from Pitlochry up is my neck of the woods. I drive all over it for work and never tire of the views.
