Morning all!
Before spending a small fortune I thought I’d look for some advice.
Increasingly I find myself looking for something to sit on when out walking with the dog, as she tends to favour rummaging as opposed to walking and this leaves me free to sit on my ass, wildlife watch and the like.
I seem to recall someone saying they had the Fjallraven Stubben and wondered how people find / found it before I splash out silly money on one. Over the years I’ve tried a few rucksack / chair combos and found them either frail or uncomfortable to carry.
Opinions please. :)

I have the Stubben. I like it mainly because it is not wearing holes in the back of my Paramo jacket like the HPG Umlindi v1 pack did. I have mentioned it more than once!

The Stubben is a lovely thing, but with the pouches on the side it weighs close to 3Kg. The pouches are held on by 4 toggles and loops each. I would have preferred zips, but I don't put a lot of weight in the pockets so they have come to no harm so far. I have used it as a seat a few times and it takes my 82Kg without problems. The material is robust, and I would say that I am a long way off having to re-wax it. The pack is comfortable, but there is no waist belt so my limit is about 12Kg loaded. I am elderly though so I am sure a young blade could manage a lot more. It can be loaded from the top or the front, which is useful.

Overall I am glad I bought mine, and it remains a keeper. A Karrrinor Predator with some zip-on side pouches might be a logical alternative for me, but they lack the seat and the front panel. Rich suggested carrying a camping stool, but sitting on the Stubben is more comfortable, and won't sink into the soft stuff.

P.S. If you go with Rich's advice then look at Walkstool. It will be the last stool you buy. I have one and they are superbly made.

Edit: UK Vendor here HERE There may be others. I bought one of the Comfort range.

And just when I’d written off the idea…
Seriously though, thanks for this and the possibility of extending the life of my Paramo stuff is a valid bonus point too.
Decisions, decisions.

A thing of beauty - a joy to (be)hold. The quality is absolutely superb, but to be honest there is nothing like parking one's arse into a decent camping chair.
Interesting. I've always used a tripod stool, for some reason I can't drink in a reclined position so sitting weight forward on a tripod works best for me. But the one I've got at the moment is still in fair condition and it came free in the boot of a second hand car so until it packs in I won't be replacing it.

There is no organisation in the pack. Definitely a try before you buy proposal.
So it’s essentially a box with shoulder straps? The cost of those tripods is looking more reasonable.

What about a bushcraft type version? Or maybe too heavy?

You want a new bag don’t you, that’s what this is about ;)
