It is the crushing of freedom of speech in universities that is worrying me. We are starting to see evidence of Florida's general approach in Canada. This particular point of protest is the instrument for implementation in the US for lots of DeSantis's hatred of all independent thought.

The unpicking of social freedoms sounds odd coming from those libertarian types, but that is only because they lie about their intentions all the time. Right-wing antisemites using the charge of antisemitism to break up the coherence of the centre left has been one of the great intellectual coups of the C21st in the US and Europe. Not to say there isn't plenty of antisemitism and each and every political party, just that the right have been particularly artful and well-organized in creating a fulcrum from it.

If you look at the history of the membership of congress and senate in the US, you'll see that the number of Jewish democrats outweighs the number of Jewish republicans by thousands of per cent, yet it is the democrats suffering.

You'll be getting Kate Forbes, I reckon. Though she presents as a vicious, right-wing wifey type, inclined to supply a version of Thatcherism with a bit of anti-abortion sentiment, I am sure I am wrong about that. It is what is good and dreadful about nationalist parties .... everyone is in there from left to right and you can't tell from one minute to the next who you'll get at the top.

Rather looking forward to Rish getting eaten alive during the week. He's mumbling about 100 days of retribution (er, new and attractive policies) though. Liz and Kemi and IDS are just waiting til Friday to demand a new leader. BJ will be back in national politics by mid June.
