Following on from the pic of the barber yesterday I thought it might be uncharacteristically nice to celebrate things that give us reason to hope for humanity in a world full of gloom and despair.

P.S. Don’t worry, I’ll recover from this positivism soon enough and I’m fully aware that this thread will just turn to ratshit like all the others. :D

"The European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP) has announced that, from 2026, it will award five-star ratings only to cars that retain physical controls for key features. The decision means motor companies wanting to score maximum points in crash testing will not be able to rely exclusively on touchscreens"

Looks like the annoying modern trend of hiding controls from the users is to be somewhat reversed, proper indicator stalks, excellent.

When the Ukraine was invaded by Russia, a lot of Scottish parents dug out their boxes and refilled them. They went off in container trucks to Ukraine.
Over four and a half thousand apparently.

I actually hadn't realised that English, Welsh and Irish babies don't get their own boxes :shame:

Turns out that the British Baby box is a business, and they charge new parents......

We had one, I'm not sure where it came from. The box itself wasn't used much as moving the baby into it would just wake him, but all the kit it comes with is handy to have, I think a lot of it is supplied as a sort of loss leader by baby companies.

That carpet is long gone, but we're still using the coffee table and it's still held together with a ratchet strap.

I knew old folks who were laid in drawers to sleep as babies....open, I hasten to add. It was warm and clean and up out of the draughts, dogs, etc.,
We didn't have a carrycot when I was little, but a seagrass moses basket. It was used later for my wee bother too....I can still mind that grassy smell, it's still triggers warmth/home/love/Mum to me.

I bought some seagrass to make baskets with and the scent when I opened the packaging took me right back to Hawthorn Cottage and my Granny's home. I loved that wee sandstone house. Maybe I loved all it meant ?

And according to some it was the crime of the century.

Remember the Sun headline about baby boxes being fire hazards? Showing somebody actually setting light to one to prove it.

.....and totally ignoring the fact that they've been in use in Europe since the war ended... and yet there's no great cull of infants burning to death in box beds......
