Petworth Park, a deer park on the Leconfield Estate, a grey day late Feb. One of those walks when I just wanted to exercise the dog but ended up just walking and walking, no one about apart from a groundsman sat on a tiny island in the lake coppicing Alder and having a bonfire. What a job!

Hoping everyone’s wifi is better than mine, these pics are taking forever to load.

You'd lose me forever on a site like that :D
I’m going back next week, for a stay on Portland Bill. That bit of beach at Kimmeridge needs to be walked away from the steps that go down. That’s where the casual visitor has a bit of a hunt. I met a lady with a huge chunk of ammonite and several small, perfectly formed ones in pyrite who had walked further round.

She felt a bit guilty at taking them off the beach, but she had pockets full to the brim with old fishing line, plastic crap, little plastic pellets, film cases etc. I told her she definitely deserved a reward and should take them home.

No, you are right, Rich ... taking forever to load. Same with the attachments

But lovely when they do arrive, eventually. Paul Nash photographed and painted Kimmeridge Bay. It was a pilgrimage I never managed to make

Can't imagine why you'd feel guilty taking fossils form that part of the coast. Once exposed the sea just chews them up, and in any case, they just keep pouring out of the cliffs

I’d have used Photobucket, I have to occasionally when a file is too big, but there were too many.

I wonder why they’re so clunky? Any idea @Andylaser?

Edit: Would it be because I’m using the file attachment to host the pics rather than the image drop?

Nice pics Rich. I do like that part of Dorset.

Taking fossils from beaches on the Jurassic coast is one of the reasons people go, surprised to hear someone feel bad about it.

Lot of people chip away at the soft cliff so there are signs on most beaches telling people not to and not to remove fossils. I agree with you, it’s educational and very rewarding, not to mention our very heritage and history.

When I was very young my parents took me to corfe castle. I told them that before I was born I had been a soldier there protecting a lady.

Think they were a bit freaked out, especially when they were told about the history of the place

Weird. I’ve read of people telling their parents such things before and research uncovering the exact events described but the child could never have known.

We didn’t go in, it’s fenced, and there’s a £12 admittance charge. It £30 for a family, the tea rooms charged £3.20 for a half cup of coffee. A family visit with ice creams and a couple of coffees and you’re looking at £50!

I think I was 3 at the time. I’ll have to ask my parents.

Not cheap. I do like that area though. The Pig On The Beach is by there, I did their new years fireworks a few years ago. Fantastic restaurants. There’s one close to Arundel now.

At an old quarry on Portland Bill. There are 54 of these things scattered about. We only found about a third of them. Weird place, you drive through an industrial park that doesn’t look like much, then this place is at the end. Stunning cliff views too.
