Mind the thick loop pile socks of years ago ?
I bought eight pairs of knee length ones in Millets over twenty years ago. I wore them, I worked in them, they got every kind of hard wear, and they still wash up, are still in almost perfect condition, didn't even go bobbly. The most comfortable socks I own. One pair fitted without needing to be doubled up in boots.

I wish I knew where they'd sourced them because I'd buy more of these for folks as presents.
I think I paid £1.95 a pair for them back then. OD, Navy Blue, Red and fawn Khaki.
Worth every penny.

Surprising the stuff that turned up in Millets, I got brilliant ski gloves in there too, and they cost me a quarter of the price of going to Tiso's.

I am :D

Thanks for the heads up but I really don’t need any more gear! I’m trying to get rid of stuff rather than gain more.
Apart from Sundays for boot sales, I rarely go there.
Well it's all right for you but what about the rest of us, selfish bastard! I know of an old Irishman lost on an islet who's desperate for a rucksack (and some fishing gear)

Millets was a widely understood euphemism at one point

I seem to remember being in Inverness many years ago and they had a Millets and a Blacks. Blacks used to be really good at addressing the needs for proper outdoor pursuits. I am not sure if they were diluted by the "conjoining" with Millets, but Millets seemed to go up a notch in quality. They really used to sell some dire junk. Perhaps it was in the early days of getting outdoors when we all used to bake in kagoules with the sauna side effect?
