Morning all!
Before spending a small fortune I thought I’d look for some advice.
Increasingly I find myself looking for something to sit on when out walking with the dog, as she tends to favour rummaging as opposed to walking and this leaves me free to sit on my ass, wildlife watch and the like.
I seem to recall someone saying they had the Fjallraven Stubben and wondered how people find / found it before I splash out silly money on one. Over the years I’ve tried a few rucksack / chair combos and found them either frail or uncomfortable to carry.
Opinions please. :)

Would some kind of shooting stick not be potentially more useful ?
I mean, dogs, investigating stuff, sticks are handy things :)

Me ? I want one of these when I get decrepit :D

Sitmat too low?

View attachment 258

Lots of wool/waxed cotton on Etsy for about £20.

Or this:

If it had carry straps and a pouch for camera, bins, field guide and other doggie paraphernalia but weighed in at less than 3kg the chair would be good.
I have a profusion of sitmats, but my knees would prefer not getting up and down from the grass, sand and mud and there aren’t always suitable rocks, logs and the like.

Your last line sums it up Mary. Decrepitude is setting in. I thought about the shooting stick but firstly it doesn’t take weight off my knees and secondly, I’d soon be on the ground in mud and sand. :)

You do get ferrules meant for sand though.....for the record, they don't work in bogs :sigh:

I have had two of the rucksack kind, and neither was very good. One was such a palaver to untie /free to fold down that it wasn't worth the bother. The other was a miserable rucksack to carry, and the seat was still too low.

Interested to hear if you do find something 'right' though, because there are times when a wee five minute sit down would really be a good thing. Let me get back up and get on again.

That Helinox chair is seen here quite a bit. Doesn't weigh much ... there's a few options in the very light chair area

I don't know anything about the Fjallraven though

Had one of those a while back when camping in Derbyshire. Sheer torture to get out of and up from with knackered knees. In the end and to my shame, I threw it in the Derwent when I was pissed.

I hate those folding chairs, like Kev getting up out of them with aching joints is not fun. It's really not fun.
Last Moot I went to I went to the local Tesco and just bought one of the plain plastic stacking garden chairs, and left it in the centre building when I went home. It was worth the loss of the nine quid for the ten days comfort and ease.

I was eyeing up the triploid ones.
Like this.

Sorry, it won't let me steal the image.

I thought that one looked practical, comfortable, and has a sensible walking stick handle for rough ground or poking around at stuff.

Not seen them before Kev so can’t help with any personal insight. Just had a quick reccy on the net, they do look good though, for me, better than the fold out seat contraptions I’ve seen!
Shooting seats aren’t so bad on the knees, if they’re the right height, (you can get adjustable ones) they are a bit of a balancing act though! Probably a waste of time after a few good pulls from a hip flask :D
Luckily I now spend nearly all my walking in the forest with the dog, not that I can walk far now anyway due to a buggered ankle, plenty of natural stubbens around and luckily only one intermittently sore knee if I just plonk myself down.

Just checked recently sold used ones on the bay, £130, £140 and one at £170, got any patience? :D
