Went out to close the greenhouse door and realised that the blur I could just see along the treeline was bats
Local Rangers say that there are seven types found locally. I don't know about that, all I see is a flittering blur and I can hear them sometimes too. My hearing loss is where voices lie, I hear the high sounds still.
They pair up and do a crazy swooping sort of follow my leader type aerial ballet between our back wall and next door's gable end.

You should see the number and size of the moths that are out tonight too though. No wonder the bats are busy.

Huge great hairy things, with horns. Two big ghost moths on the bathroom window.

People say they don’t need to clean their windscreens much these days because of the reduction in flying insects due to pesticides and climate change. That’s rubbish, certainly this year. I drive home around 7.30-9.00 PM several times a week and each time I hear what sounds like fine, dry hail or sharp sand hitting my screen. It’s thousands of insects. Unfortunately I’m also hitting a lot of moths and bigger beetles too. I’m seeing bats absolutely everywhere in my headlights. And that’s just the ones hunting near the road.
