the beautiful south. but NOT on the island
looks and works well, the fire brigade were banging about the danger of lithium batteries bursting into flames this morning.
When I was at school our science teacher was breaking off tiny bits of lithium from a half inch square block so we could see how it fizzed when she dropped it in water. The main lump, which was kept in oil, slipped from her tongs into the tank of water, she shit herself and screamed to get under our desks. we pissed ourselves laughing when it blew a hole through the lab cieling. One of my fondest school memories but taught us all that lithium is bad in air or water so if its used in big batteries its just a matter of time.....

There's very little lithium in a rechargeable battery, comparative to the likes of a CR123. The figures seem to be that a Tesla is more likely to catch fire than a Ford Pinto, however.

Lol...I'm a fireman.
There's definitely a storm coming with lithium batteries. People charging their scooters/ mobility scooters/ ebikes at the foot of their stairs or near a front door are asking for trouble... especially when they replace the charger for a generic eBay one, or swap the battery pack.

As for electric vehicle fires... Fuck knows what you're meant to do. I'm in charge of a pump at work, and the official line is "we don't really know"

Stand well clear and let it burn itself out seems the most sensible course of action.
