My daughter was in London yesterday for a friend's birthday, with a group of others. They did the National History museum, went to an Italian restaurant for lunch, then Carnaby Street and an Irish pub, where she had her first (and second, and possibly third) Guinness. They still made it back on time to St Pancras to catch the train and the school minibus.
A Guinness on St Patrick's day! I am so proud

A foundational memory I'm sure.

The production line is already up and running with chiilies out of the propagator, tomatoes & aubergines taking their place and cucumbers and courgettes, along with leeks in pots.
Today it’s time for the parsnips. Line up the saved toilet roll inners in a tray, fill with compost, moisten compost and make seed holes with a pencil. Finally insert the…. Awww fuck, fuck, fucking fuck!!! :bang:

Note to self about listening to that little voice of doubt telling me I’d forgotten something at the garden centre this morning. :shame:

I’ve planted nothing so far.

I probably should have written that post 3 weeks ago, in the "What did the Post bring today ?" thread but as our kitchen window sill faces north, I got one of those "Click & Grow" thing, and a combination of salads, thyme and basil (3 of each).
The plan was (and still is) to make my own pods rather than the excellent but dear C&G ones, salads will be replaced with parsley, chives and a few others. I'd love tarragon but it likes a dry soil so maybe hydroponics is not for it, or maybe I need a shorter reed at the bottom so that it only draws water in the first couple of days after the refill.

I’ve always wondered if anyone really used these for Legal herbs….

I had a successful day by wrapping an inch long wire round two prongs of metal.

What was so good about that?

If I hadn’t, it would have cost me £4,000! (Well it would have cost my work budget that)

The hall stage has motorised curtains. Push to open. Push to close. Push to stop in the middle.
Pretty simple but complicated enough when you look in the box of tricks.
This is without the cables so it looks nicer, plus there’s things going on at the motor too.

I had tried a few bits over a couple of sessions and couldn’t work out what the fault was, having little idea of how electronics works. (Fernox was no good either!)

On Monday I had a chap come out who used to make them. (A paid visit) He concluded that the board was dead and told me that they’re no longer made so would need a whole new system.

I figured that I had little to lose in dismantling further and sat with my multimeter,YouTube and Reddit.

This morning I noticed this little tear in the copper trace.

I wonder…..

It worked!

Yes, I’ll solder something nicer later or get a trace repair kit.

Anyway, tomorrow will probably be unblocking toilets or cleaning up vomit…

Nice fix, put some tape over the repair when you are done and a bit more over the exposed trace in the corner of the image. Don't want your genius going up in smoke :D

Lucky that - getting her mum's looks!!

I have been buying things again. Lots of things. Spent loads of money. No regrets - YOLO!

Also been sawing the blanket of ivy that has come adrift from the garage. Full length and height ivy. Half of it has come unattached so I sawed through it and with the help of the other half, rolled it up. She needs a man and a van/trailer to take it away now.

Treated the horse that has moved into the "neigh"bourhood to 3 carrots today. Only my second visit to the field but it seems to know me already. Cupboard love apparently! The Shetland pony in the field is too slow/nervous so gets bugger all.

Booked (or reserved) the hotel and flights for a trip back to Florence later this year, hoping I get to see some of the stuff that was shut last time lol.
I have some of the pics from when I was there 2 years ago running in a slideshow as my desktop background and every time one comes up I just want to go back again.

This one is for Kev: I told Taina that I would tell you guys I was proud of her popping her guinness cherry in an Irish pub on St Patrick’s.
I believe she’s starting to like the stuff. She sent me this earlier :

With the following : « Send to your Irish friends I’m now a Guinness girl! »

I’ll say no more
