That was either a very small turkey or a very large bottle of port :ROFLMAO::D:p

 I wasn't there for the actual cooking, just the eating. I loathe turkey. Like trying to eat scotchbrite pads. But, from the debrief, I understand there was a bottle of port, an orange and lemon sliced up plus some stock, garlic and herbs. Then there was a tent construction made of a 2" deep baking tray and aluminium foil. The bird steamed (thus preventing the usual dessication). After that it was slathered with salt and butter and put back in to a hot oven to crisp. The stock went for gravy and cooking cranberries. The underside approached delicious.

I think steaming birds like this is the way to go. Originally roasting them was fine, but folks deliberately bred and fed birds to be fat. Now folks complain if there's too much fat.
It's like steak, it ought to be marbled, but then, Heaven forfend ! that adds calories

I'm a good vegetarian, how come I'm a little fat lady ? I don't eat fat. :dunno:
I reckon I need to move more, what a pity moving more hurts so damned much.

Some thinking today suggests it's not fat that makes people fat, but carbs, especially sugar.

Yes, but eating fat gives you coronaries

I don't believe a word of health advice any more. If people are prepared to lie about elections, jewish space lasers and covid viruses (and have people believe it) then I am sure the pig and dairy industry would be able to pay a few influential doctors to say that butter and bacon is good for you. I watched Dave MacLeod go on for an hour about the science of high fat diets the other day. Good grief. We'll be seeing ads extolling the health benefits of Marlboros soon.

Turning 60 made me think that salad, grilled fish and plenty of water actually is the way forward ... not that I have actually managed to stop fuelling on bacon and chip butties.

I don't eat sugar though. Seriously, chocolate is an occasional treat, and then a wee bit is an ample sufficiency. I bake, but I never eat it. I do occasionally have a mint sweetie though. A tube of soft mints lasts me a month.

I do eat a lot of fruit. Three portions a day. Today I have had cherries, an apple and a tangerine :)

I just don't move enough :sigh:

As Kev says Carbs can be transformed in fat as the body can transform one into another (Have a look at de novo lipogenesis). Also, carbs is not just sweets. And fructose enhances production of lipids in the liver rather than in fatty cells.
You might want to look at increasing the amount of fat you ingest (olive oil?) to reduce DNL.

Me and dairy have a love hate relationship. My tastebuds love it but my body loathes it, so I mostly avoid. I don't like fake butters, margarines, etc., so olive oil is my alternate :)
I do like good olive oil and balsamic vinegar :) I miss good bread, but G/F flatbreads, cornbreads and the like work fine with olive oil too :)
I don't eat meat, but I do eat nuts, legumes, grains and mushrooms to make up the protein.
I'm a good vegetarian, and have been for over forty years.

On the whole my diet is healthy, just I don't move enough to balance out what I do eat.

Heart, lungs, BP, blood sugar, cholesterol, kidney and liver function are all healthy, just the gut is temperamental and the joints ache.
Right now my fingers are like wee sausages. Main knuckles are fine, sort of, but my finger ones are really hot and swollen. My pinch grip is going again, and my shoulders are aching.
Ironically touch typing actually keeps my fingers mobile instead of them locking up.

I'll live, the joints will hopefully settle down again, just this weather doesn't help and I need to move more.

I'm a happy bunny again. Been sorting out a pile of fabric bits and bobs, found a few things, like a fav t shirt, and best of all, a hand knitted alpaca wool vest that has been missing since last winter, right at the bottom of the pile. It should never have been in the pile in the first place. No wonder I couldn't find it!!!
Anyway, I'm now ready for the Arctic blast we are promised next week.
Crustless homity pie for tea tonight. Potato, cheese, onion garlic and herbs all baked into a wonderful cheesy scrumptiousness. Mummmmm!

Just finished another sock, this time I'm using rainbow coloured wool and knitting on two needles for a bit of variety. It looks great, and can't wait to finish the other one, just in time for spring, and wearing happy colours.
Lots of tedious sewing up though, especially as they are knee length ones.

A doctor writes:

”A phobia of cheese is called Turophobia and is often associated with a cheese related trauma in childhood, so it’s possible the victim sucked someone off that he now associates with the devil that had a cheesy cock.“

I was trying to edit, as I did manage, but my iPad has been in low power mode for ages and I had to restart it after scrabbling for the plug. My original, in your quote, I admit is a bit much

True story this.

There I was running herd on the wardrobe for 300 reeneactors dressed up as Robert the Bruce's army vs Edward's. (film for Bannockburn NT)
and sometimes you really do meet some interesting characters doing this kind of thing.
Anyway, we've finally got them dressed and checked and kicked out to play in the mud, and Trisha says, "I'll find the tea, shall I ?", and Mhairi and I both sigh in relief, we've been up since five and on our feet working since before six. It's now 10.30ish.

We're doing a quiet tidy up and trying to find that second wind with tea and digestives when back comes one of the English re-enactors to see if we could do a running repair on his kit.
Not a problem, so I find my hussif and wander over to see what's torn.

"You're not getting near me with that m'dear, I'll do it myself." says he, "My hose is dandy grey russet, the same colour as my nut sack!" and he belly laughed, "Like the Devil's "......the modern "politicaly correct" quote is that it's the colour of the devil's nutting bag.....well the devil never collected nuts, he grew his own, if I make myself clear ? and aye, he'd torn his hose striding out without having his points tied up  and had skimped and wasn't wearing braies.

Off he went, and the three of us tied ourselves in knots laughing about the devils nut sack....so next time I was dyeing, and it was an awfully dull and sort of muted madder that didn't quite look right, Fiona looked and me and said, "Hmmm.... De'il's bawbag red, then ?"
I was so tempted to name that sample..... :)
