You’re not qualified to answer, you’re a veggie!

Honey and occasionally really good mature cheddar. Otherwise my diet's vegan :)

Sorry to derail a joke; it's just the dribble about every vegetarian/vegan really really wants a bacon sandwich....eh no ! that's just ultimate gross for most of us.
Asking about grass is like a vegan asking if the smell of new leather shoes makes a carnivore hungry.
Does not compute, kind of thing.

Anyway, joke.... :)

Taken a liking to whats becoming called 'girl dinner' - i.e a plate of everything you like on it. Just came back from a rather good Italian deli ... some sausages and breaded veal, grilled aubergines in oil, horseradish pickles, grilled peppers in brine, some of those giant capers, olives stuffed with anchovies, lupini beans, some bits of cheese, butter beans in a sauce, excellent tomatoes and basil, decent bread ... all with an OK pinot grigio .... nothing on tv though, so just listening to Soft Machine

Found an excellent supply of affordable puy lentils in the shop next door. Tricky to find here at other than laughable 'organic' prices ... so I picked up 5 kilos

I didn't know that's called a Girl Dinner....it's a vegetarian's favourite, we just call it bits and bobs.
Just a plateful of tasty bites, from fruits to cheese, nuts to little things like mini samosas, dumplings, sushi, pickles, good saladings, etc.,

Good food, and everyone's happy.

Son2 wanted macaroni in cheese sauce.....sounds simple, but gluten free pasta and gluten free sauce are not good.

Not much I can do about the pasta, corn based is better than rice, but the sauce.....gave up on the gluten free flour and used very fine oat flour....oh but it's good :D. It takes normal seasoning, and it isn't gummy or jelly like or mouth clagging sticky and it doesn't separate. It's just good tasty well textured sauce.

Funny how much appeal simple foods have.

I made cheesy potato scones to go with lunch, and again I used the fine oat flour instead of the normal gluten free. They were on the soft side, but really tasty, really worth repeating :)

We live and learn :D

Oh how I miss being able to visit a deli. I used to love going in and having a look at their different salamis and sometimes saucisson. The only alternative here since Tesco closed down their deli is the plastic wrapped sliced meat section. Further afield there is a deli in Edinburgh that I like. It's on a particularly photogenic hill up from the Grassmarket. Can't remember the name or the shop, but they do mail order. The trouble is that as soon as they get stock it's immediately sold out. I am going to look for mail order deli's online as soon as I have finished this.

5 Kg of lentils!? You know that lentils are the work of the devil right? :poke:

Twice baked potatoes, stuffed with the scooped out potato mashed up with grated cheddar, salt, pepper, finely cut up syboes and a wee bit of butter.

Basically I just stuffed them and turned them up side down in a frying pan and let them roast. The cheesy crust was brilliant :D

Among other things, including nuts, olives, dried figs and the like, I had cubes of feta cheese with honey dribbled over them ...

There was also a thin-crust cheese, olives and tomato pizza with a big hit of dried oregano. If I'd had a glass of retsina, I'd have been on Tilos or some other little Greek island.

A friend joined us tonight with her 3 dogs.
So veal kidneys we got in France, with smoked pancetta dices, Pineau des Charentes and crème fraîche. With a simple long grain rice.

The entrée was a charcuterie specialty made with trotters, ears, tongue and pig’s head in jelly with little pickled onions and cornichon, with a nice Côtes du Rhône and a few cheeses to end the meal.

Life is good tonight

I put some dried beans out to soak yesterday. So, this morning I fried and onion and some bacon and put them all on to simmer with a bit of red wine vinegar and a can of chipotle peppers. I went to add a half-handful of cumin seeds but accidentally picked up the jar of caraway.

So, we'll see. Dinner might end up being more central european than I planned.
