I'm a big fan of carhartt... The new rugged flex duck trousers are brilliant, especially the double fronted ones. Not got any if their denim though.

Levi's skateboard jeans are good...I've got a pair of 501's in indigo stretch denim. They've got some cordura in the fabric, and a few nice touches like reinforced pockets

What size are you?

I'm a 34 to 36" waist and I'm definitely in a large.

There's no flex in the material,.so you don't want them tight😉
34”
Thanks for the tip, looks like an L for me, erring on the cautious. Seems more logical to me anyway rather than their stated M.

Cactus are doing 15% off everything right now, of course, they don't have my size in stock. Saves me a tough decision 🙃

As if by magic the Cactus sale has started!

I've got 3 pairs of shorts and a pair of trousers... enough to last a lifetime.

If anyone places an order can they get me 4 of the 100mm stickers?

Bugger, funds are spoken for at the mo! I can foresee some mental juggling and anguish later.

IF, notice the big if! No problem.

Maybe if anyone else is ordering we keep this updated? FBD only wants 4!

I received a pair of Kühl Above the Law today, first impression is that they won't last. They seem decent for the most part but the material is quite lightweight, and the inside of the front pockets seem to be made of the same stuff as leggings?

Front reinforcing is good and thick, unfortunately ironed to an embarrassing knife edge crease 😅

Anyway, time will tell. I managed to get them for £85 so if they last longer than a pair of 501s then I'd be happy.

Edited to say the waist seems true to size but they're the longest 30" trousers I own!

Anyone know owt about Englebert Strauss jeans. German, seem to get a good rep.

I’ve ordered a couple of pairs, some 5 pocket Workers and some Powerdenims. I’ll let you know on quality as they’re not pricy and there’s a massive choice.

Also have a pair each of Levi’s 511 and 501. Could be juggling sizing for a couple of weeks and doing lots of returns.

Just a quick update on the 4 pairs I bought. Kept the 501s, expensive at £86 but I needed jeans the next day so chose between the 501 and 511. The 511 were £93 and made of thin elasticy denim, really crap.

Englebert-Strauss were a nice surprise. They also included a huge workwear catalogue and a handy Work Notes A6 pad. The Powerdenim (£68.48) were great but a bit slim fitting for me. Double knee is handy and the denim was thick and strong. The 5-Pocket Stretch (£50.28) fit like a glove. Denim is medium thick, not too stretchy. I kept these and will send the Powerdenim back for refund.

I've had a look at the Englebert-Strauss jeans...I like the look of the denim work shorts ( I'm a march - October shorts wearer)

How's the sizing?
Where did you get them?

Sizing is pretty much spot on. I usually order 32/32 5.11s, but they have the elasticated waist. So I ordered 33/33 (size 48) in both pairs. The work jeans were perfect, the Powerdenim seemed longer in the leg. Returns are free so nowt to stop you trying a couple of sizes. I ordered from Englebert-Strauss U.K., but I’m pretty sure they came from Germany looking at the delivery label. Took only a couple of days though, very efficient..

Hey these are actually pretty decent. The vents actually work, the lined waistband is nice and they have the canvas fronts for durability but overall they're a much softer trouser. Dunno if I'd be happy paying £130 for another pair though.

A Heinnie ad came through by email for them the other day, and while I swoon at the sheer manliness of them, I also swoon at the price. Didn’t take me too long to put them out of mind.

And now you've got me wanting a pair of those kuhl. Can I ask what the actual inside leg measurement is against what they say. And how narrow are the bottom of the legs. I'm a bit particular about baggy trousers. I can only find heinnie stocking them at the moment. Cheers.

Thanks. Think I'll just order a pair. Been to a local shop today that sell kuhl but they weren't even aware of the above the law pants.

Yeah but it doesn't seem to really do anything, I'd forgotten about that. It's got an elasticated element so instead of cinching the leg down it just stretches:

Left side undone, right one on the tightest of three settings.

Ah, now I have a vision of them being worn by a knobbly kneed Yorkshireman in a string vest, with a knotted hanky as a sun hat, I’m cured of the sheer manliness hurdle too. Thanks Jaggededge 👍

I have some brand new Kuhl kanvas trousers to move on. Too long for me legs. You can see why they’re a liked brand though. I would definitely try their jeans.

I've just put on a pair of Cactus Trade Plus Supertrousers, which had been missing but turned up in a bizarre pile of laundry. They felt tight going on but when I couldn't get the belt threaded through the loops I knew they'd been shrunk. They never have them in stock and even if they did it would be moot as they're £230 delivered.

I don't have time in my life to be trying all the daft remedies online so they'll be going into the drawer for a while, perhaps food will get so expensive that I'll end up malnourished and manage to wear them comfortably again.

Harrumph!

Didn't know they shrank! I'd email cactus and see if it's a faulty batch.

I've made a pair into shorts fairly recently. I've worn them all summer. I'm a shorts guy from march to October whenever possible.

I tried some Patagonia hemp double knee work pants. Nice and soft, but a terrible cut. Tough, but not cactus tough.
